Cornhusker Challenge @ JMS Friday 7-29-2011

What a difference. It was cloudy until shortly before hot laps, then the sun came out. Not very hot, but the humidity was really high.                 Things went well until the 3rd heat when a scary looking crash involving Scott Hatton, Julee Jamison, and Terry Goodwin occurred in turn four. Fortunately, they were all OK afterward, but Julee had to be helped to the ambulance.
In the feature, it looked as if Austin Brown had the field covered, but after a restart, Brad Kuhn got around and cruised to the win. The real race of the evening was the pack battling for 2nd through about 7th or 8th.
With the addition of Bryan Clauson Saturday, the final should be something to see.

Ooops, track's a little greasy!

Chad McDaniel Memorial @ Beloit 7-28-2011

After all the work Tyler Odle and everyone else went to over the last year, it was a real shame that we went & rained out. At least everyone got to run at least once and the fans got to see SOME of the show. That's racin'....but it still stinks.
Walking through the pits before hot laps I got to talk to quite a few people and got a poster signed by several drivers. Come by the High Banks Museum and see it when you come up for the Nats. I had almost given up on Cody when I finally saw his rig off in a corner.
It was good to see Jeff Cooley again. He & I always seem to miss each other most of the summer. Bob Mays was there too, but he was his usual bashful self and I could barely get him to speak. (Where's the "roll eyes" smilie when you need it?)  I'd say it was nice to see him too, but he'd just get a big head!!
Well, it was rain shortened and very dark so there wasn't a lot to pick from, but here we go.......

This one is out of order, but I wanted it for the cover. Kellen Conover finds some traction out of two.

Kent Schmidt

Keith Rauch

Cody Brewer

Garett Hood

Don Droud Jr & Tim Siner

Brad Kuhn

Andrew Felker

Felker & Terry "Cuz" Gooodwin

Julee Jamison

Mike Boesel (77) (don't say BO-sel) and CJ Johnson at the start of heat #1.

Cody Brewer (96), Tyler Thomas, (91), and Tim Siner at the start of heat #2.

Kyle Neal got into the wall pretty hard, but was OK.

Siner & Brewer

Thomas & Garett Hood

In heat #3, Felker slowed and Brad Loyet couldn't slow or get around.

Brett Anderson almost got involved, but they got out of it.

Loyet back at speed.
Almost the same thing happened in the next heat when Clint Schubert slowed in front of Jake Blackhurst.

John Campbell

When Kellen Conover bobbled in turn two, Steve Buckwalter couldn't miss him. They both went on.
It's nice when the drivers come by the infield for these little visits. Butch Middleton.

Nate Fleming really had to work to get around Shayle Bade in the 1st mini-sprint heat.

Why I prefer non-wing. There are 3 cars here and you can only see a little of a second car. Good racing though!! Wyatt Burks was FAST tonight. He & Nate should have put on a good show in the A.

It looked like Zach Middleton had a broken radius rod coming into turn #1 and couldn't avoid Darren Lucking.

The front end dug in and.............

This is what I DO like about wings. They make great shock absorbers.

Seconds before the showers that ended the racing began, Ryan Cole drives under Jake Blackhurst in Bryan Clauson's car.

Off to JMS where I hope we have better weather!!
