URSS Sprints @ Belleville Saturday 8-4-2012

Friday night Luke Cranston proved he was still king of this hill, but everyone else had figured out what they needed to change to get around here better. Did Cranston have enough left to make it five in a row?
Conditions were almost perfect at race time and the heats were fast and incident free. Zach Blurton won the first heat, beating Cranston and showed that he wasn't invincible....although Luke DID start at the back of the pack. Judd Sheaffer & Ray Seeman won the other two heats.
Before the URSS feature, the top eight midget drivers drew for their dash starting positions down in front of the stands. As that was winding down, one of the NCRA guys told me C Ray Hall had been hit by a pickup and was banged up a bit. I went to go see him, but the sprints started pushing off before I got half way so I never got a chance to talk to him. From what I've heard since, he's OK but still hurting a bit.
For the feature, Blurton was on the front row outside and Cranston right behind him.  Blurton took off at the green and built up a fairly large lead, but once Cranston got in the clear, he soon caught up to Blurton, took over the lead, and never looked back. If anything, Saturday's win looked easier than Friday's had been.
Wyatt Burks, the young driver who was so impressive Friday, fell out around the mid point. Tonight's big mover was Brian Herbert who moved from his 8th place start to finish 2nd.
Visit the URSS site for a more detailed report and the results of the feature:

I would like to mention Stu Snyder who was severely injured in a bad crash during a USAC sprint race Sunday evening at US36 Raceway in Osborn, Mo. Please keep Stu and his family in your thoughts and prayers during his recovery.
Butch Hardman was one of the guys who I left out of Friday's blog.
