Belleville 100 Friday

I didn't quit know what to expect when I got to the track Friday afternoon, but from what I'd heard from fans & racers at various tracks I was afraid we'd have a low car count...and we did.
As I looked around, it was soon obvious that there were some top notch teams here, but just not as many as everyone was hoping for. Twenty nine cars is all there were and during hot laps it was soon obvious not ALL of them were going to be front runners.

Brandon Blochlinger of Concordia and Scott Styskal of David City, Ne. were running together when they closed on the #75 of Gary Hall. They ran out of room and made pretty hard contact, but did no serious damage.

Before hot laps, I had tried to get around to all the first time drivers and tell them about Belleville's back stretch guard rail. In case anyone hasn't noticed, it tends to bite cars, regardless of class, at almost every race.
While there were a few close calls in hot laps, everyone avoided it until the first heat when Kyle Bronson, who'd pulled all the way from Florida, pounded the wall hard enough to rip the left roof post loose.

He tried to see if it was still drivable for a moment, but the left rear pointing at the sky wasn't a good sign. The car was done, but he had a backup car in the hauler.

It wasn't just newcomers who had problems staying out of the guardrail either. Here, Darrick Klima gets real close to it in the 2nd heat with Scott Styskal under him.

Another first time driver here was Todd Ligenza from Columbus, Nebraska. Todd was here to enjoy himself and had a big grin every time I talked to him. Ed Putman from Esbon is in the 01.

The guardrail wasn't done taking it's toll yet. At the start of the B, Jeremy Rasmussen took another solid hit and didn't make the main. That's Rick Germar in the 93, Styskal, and Michael Martin from Dodge City in the 15m.

Kyle Bronson got in the #66 to run the B. He and local driver Brett Behrends of Webber, Ks had a great duel lap after lap in the B with Behrends finishing 2nd and Bronson 3rd.

Things got crazy during the feature. On the first start, Jason Teague (117), Andy Wilkonson (15), Darrick Klima (2), and Brandon Blochlinger (9) were four wide down the backstretch and got away with it. It didn't stay green long though as the yellow came out soon after...and every few laps after that.

I was really impressed with Jason Teague. His first time here and with a small team, he was really fast and did a great job all night. I sat by him and his crew/family at Sonic after the show. He's a really nice young man too.
Below, he's racing Paden Phillips during the first stage of the A.

Phillips' night started going bad right after this as he spun coming out of #2 while racing Scott Styskal. Nobody tagged him, but he had to restart in the back.

Chanute's Johnny Allen (98), who has won several Mod races at Belleville over the years, had his work cut out for him Friday. Here, Allen is going around Behrends on his way to a third place finish.

Jared Landers of Batesville, Arkansas was the man to beat Friday as he was very fast all nightand led all but the first 6 laps.

Paden Phillips' night got worse when he spun again in turn one late in the race. Going to the back again, he still managed a 13th place finish.

Probably the best race of the evening was between Johnny Allen, Tim Donlinger (4r), and John Anderson for second. Here, Donlinson takes another shot at Allen.

On the last lap, Allen and John Anderson (18) were battling each other for 2nd when Donlinger got by both of them! Allen wound up 3rd and Anderson 4th.

My vote for drive of the night goes to Brandon Blochlinger for driving a car with a broken tie rod to a seventh place finish.

Jared Landers just grinned when the trophy girls sneaked in these kisses during trophy presentations.

I want to give a special thanks to Nate and Jerry Brown for all the work (not to mention $) they put in to make this show come off. It was, after all, the
