NCRA Sprints @ 81 Speedway 3-31-2012

I've had this on my calendar quite a while and was really glad when I saw we were going to have GREAT weather for the show. I'd seen guesses of 40 to 50 cars and we weren't far off. Thirty nine were in the pits and most of them were really good teams. I was afraid we'd lose more cars to the ASCS show also running, but last night's ASCS winner, Wayne Johnson, showed up in Wichita. Some others I was a little surprised to see were Danny Lasoski, Brady Bacon, and Jason Johnson.
Some other furriners who made the trip were Bob Mays and Joe Orth, both from Lincoln, Ne. I'm never surprised to see Bob at a show, but I haven't seen Joe down at Wichita before.
With recent rains and a lot of watering, the track was in pretty good shape. The cars were slipping up the track a little by the end of the feature, but there were still cars running high and low at the end.
The feature got off to a slow start with the first two tries resulting in incidents. The first time, Jeremy Campbell got sideways and got a glancing blow from Marc Robe. Robe restarted at the back, but Campbell left on the hook. He was soon back on track, because the next try got off to an even worse start. After the leaders blew by me, I saw a cluster of cars emerging from behind the front stretch fence, and one of them was flipping out from the pack. Jordan Boston tumbled into the middle of turn one ending up on his top. He climbed right out and the EMTs had to run after him!
Once the race did get under way, Luke Cranston led early, but Friday's ASCS winner, Wayne Johnson, was right on his tail. It took a few tries, but Johnson was able to take the lead only to lose it after a later yellow to Johnson....Jason Johnson. There were four of them running, Jason and Wayne plus NCRA regulars CJ and JD.
I'd give a hard charger award to Danny "The Dude" Lasoski. After pulling out of his heat, he had to run a B and moved up well to a transfer spot. This put him well back in the pack with a lot really fast cars ahead of him. Lasoski steadily moved forward, but had to settle for second as Jason Johnson held on for the win.
There were too many cars to up put solos of everyone AND still get any action shots....and I had a ton of those. So, I limited it to friends and some of the "visitors". I did get good singles of about everyone except the last session when I think there must've been about 200 cars runnin!
Just part of the field of cars on hand.

I wasn't sure who was in this at first until I saw Lasoski.

Jeff Stasa

Patrick Stasa

Dod Droud Jr.

Jon Freeman

Wyatt Burks in his 4th (I think) run in this car.

Jordan Weaver
Jason Johnson would win the A.

Wayne Johnson won Friday's ASCS show in Waco and led a while here.

Jason Johnson at intros.

When Brian Brown said "Go Buckeyes", I thought he was about to get lynched.

Some of the drivers, including the Mod Lite guys.

Bud Lee was on hand. There were only 9 or 10 of these and I didn't get many "racy" shots of them.

Wayne Johnson looked good in his heat, but Droud won it.

Jason Johnson held off AJ Selenke to win his heat.

Trevor Grossenbacher (35) and Marc Robe in the 1st B. They finished first & second.
Miranda Arnold and Danny Jennings in the 2nd B.

The obligatory 4-wide shot...still love 'em.

On the first start, Jeremy Cambell got sideways and got tagged by Marc Robe.

Ryan Roberts (18) and CJ Johnson at the 2nd start not knowing what was going on behind them.

I don't know who got into whom, but Jordan Boston came into view like this.

Front row Luke Cranston (20) and Barry Gifford when they finally got it started.

Don Droud Jr. and Jason J.

Marc Robe almost got collected again when Patrick Stasa spun.

Johnson getting around early leader Luke Cranston.

Some of the close racing from Saturday night.
Ryan Roberts after a turn four tangle left him in the mud.

Johnson & Johnson battled for the lead for several laps.

Another close call.

Jake Martens looking back to see if anyone's heading at him.

Danny Lasoski was steadily moving up throughout the race.

Jack Dover had been fast too until this happened in turn one.
It took Jason quite a while to get around Wayne, but he finally made the pass.

Lasoski getting around Jason Martin late in the race.

Brown was in the hunt the whole race, but Lasoski got around him too.

Last lap.

Jason Johnson with family & crew.

I don't have full results, but heat winners were Droud, W. Johnson, Gifford, & Cranston. The Bs were won by Grossenbacher and Campbell.
Thanks to C.Ray and all the guys who were as friendly as always!
