CVOR/KAR Antique Meet Belleville 7-31-2010

Devin Krahl (48) and John Orlowski Jr in the great looking flag design car.

These are some great looking old
midgets. #8 Bryan Johnson, #56 Wayne Johnson, #16 Wayne Murray, & #4 Gary Meimann.
Jack Petty, just one of the legendary drivers here, in the #6 sprinter with Jack Kersell from San Diego in the 3.
A great view of the magnificent Morosic rear engined sprinter and the 92 of Dave Hoska of St. Paul, Minnesota.
Just a few of the incredible old race cars that FILLED the infield Saturday...and this is one BIG joint.
These guys are regulars at area antique shows, but the cars always look good...especially lined up perfectly like this.  Max Estes (46), Fred Stewart, (97), and Ken Tatro (14)
Two of the oldest cars here. These guys ran in the catch-all class of rails, roadsters, wire wheels, & jalopies. That's Paul Tainter in the 16 and Todd White in the 98.
White and (I think) Ron Murphy in the 38.
...........and that's Todd Krahl in yet another sharp looking beauty.
Ray LeClaire  (who is being featured in next month's VOR) told me a great story about setting the speed record for midgets (dunno what class) at the Bonneville Salt Flats at 136.1 mph! Next to him is John Prather (16) of El Dorado, Kansas
Harry Ivers in a sprinter that looks a lot like his car he raced around here when I was a kid and Muskogee, Oklahoma's Larry Ross in the 5.
One of my favorite shots of the weekend. Dave Hoska (92), Brett Metcalf (1b), and Dave Chambers (2).
Exhibition? Don't tell Don Tice (4) and Marlyn Klunder (3) that. These guys ran like this for 3 or 4 laps...and heard about it later.
Two GOTRA guys, Johnny "The Jet" Orlowski and John Connelly Jr. from Schuyler, Ne.
Here's Ken Tatro and Fred Stewart again along with local driver Don McChesney (7) and another driver who always puts on a great show, #11 Deen Woods.
I'm not really a suspension expert, but I sensed something was a little off with Don's setup here. That's Chuck Faulkner from Indy behind him in the 2.
Lincoln driver Joe Haag is rightfully proud of his fantastic looking Watson roadster replica. This thing even has a second seat in it. The cars of this era were some of the best looking cars ever built.
For me, this race alone would have made for a terrific weekend. Jon Backlund in Lloyd "Pinky" Cunningham's sharp looking #2 midget and Jerry Matter put on one HELL of a show in their feature. I watched Gene Pastor (of this year's Hall of Fame class) show them the furled black flag, but it didn't slow them down much.
Jerry Wilson (25) and Larry Ross wait their turn.

It was well into the 90s when things got started, and the first sessions got dusty fast. I went over to the front stretch and it was a little better, but not much. They put on  more water after the first round and it helped a lot. Over all, things went really well Saturday. The organizers really deserve a BIG pat on the back and a bigger THANK YOU for all the work they put in to making this happen.
Thank you Gary Huibregtse, Skip Roberts, Dave Chambers, and everyone else involved. I had a fantastic time and everyone I talked to only had very complimentary things to say about the way this event came off.

Note! There are a couple of gaps in my notes, so if you see an error  in any of these captions, leave a comment and I will be glad to fix it.
